/Outdoors PR News/ - ST PAUL, MN, March 29, 2007 - Each mid-May, the return of brightly-feathered birds to the Detroit Lakes, Minnesota area is cause for celebration! The Festival of Birds observes the spring migration by taking a closer look at nearly 200 species this May from the 17-20, 2007.

Who could better recognize the common and not-so-common birds than the author and illustrator of the fastest-selling bird guide of all time? Birders may leave The Sibley Guide to Birds at their desk and enjoy identification by the master in the field this year. Besides serving as an early Saturday morning field trip leader, David Allen Sibley will autograph books and reveal how his guide evolved during his evening keynote presentation.

With 11 trips into the field, festival-goers may see a tremendous variety of bird species due to the unique transition from prairie to hardwood and conifer forests in the Detroit Lakes area. Many sight life birds, such as LeConte's and Henslow's Sparrows, Marbled Godwit, Wilson's Phalarope, Black-backed Woodpecker and Loggerhead Shrike.

Family members will delight in hands-on nature workshops: Woodland Wildflowers and Dragonflies of Minnesota. Free classroom mini-workshops sharpen attendees' skills in using optics and learning the latest on our state bird, the Loon. With a Birder's Caf , exhibitors and silent auction all located in the Minnesota State Community and Technical College commons, it's a nature-lovers social!
