Group 1 Racing Is Back - That's "Orr" Some.
Betstar's Alan Eskander says it's easy to see that a Group 1 race is on this week with punters keen to get involved in Saturday's Orr Stakes meeting at Caulfield - and it's not just the feature race that's grabbed their interest.
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, February 12, 2011 /Outdoors PR News/ -- Punters are pinning their faith in Caulfield "King" Peter Moody who has trained twice as many winners on his home track than any other trainer this season. His reigning horse of the year Typhoon Tracy has already firmed from $2.75 to $2.60 on the back of one wager of $4,000 at the opening quote but the big shortener of the day is Moody's two-year-old filly Hallowell Belle which contests the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies. The daughter of Starcraft has tightened from an opening quote of $15 to $7 with punters keen to back the unusual combination of Moody and jockey Craig Williams.
"By our records, Craig Williams hasn't had a ride for Peter Moody for almost twelve months, so we think it's significant that Moody has engaged him for such an important lead-up to the Blue Diamond. Hallowell Belle has drawn barrier 3 and stablemate One Last Dance is out in 12 and that punters are switching allegiance," Eskander said noting that One Last Dance has eased from $3.60 to $4.
Another Moody runner, Zelsnitz (Kevin Hayes Stakes) has firmed after some early action which included a bet of $1,500 at $4.80 while Mick Price's in-form galloper Acorns is in from $15 to $11 in the Rubiton Stakes.
Eskander is getting ready for a big day with the strong Randwick meeting in Sydney tomorrow also garnering plenty of punter interest. "Six of the eight races at Randwick are "black type" races including three Group 2's so that makes 14 "black type" races across the two major meetings. This will be the biggest punting day since the spring carnival so bring it on," he said.
